Lefay Resort & Spa Dolomiti: a Year-Round Alpine Retreat of Wellness, Design and Mountain Experiences

Lefay Resort & Spa Dolomiti may appear as a spa retreat. And it is, indeed - but its true weight lies in delivering a refined masterpiece of aesthetics, wellness and attentive service. It is one of the leading experiences in the Dolomites, Italy, not only in the winter season but throughout the year.
After the great success of the original resort on Lake Garda, many of the resort’s strongest features (which I highlight here) have been carried over to the Dolomites. From the dramatic landscape to the environmental care and the overall curated experience, both resorts share the same philosophy. While Lefay Lago di Garda evokes an intimate, softer beauty, the Dolomites location resonates with what we love to call deeper and emotional.

The Atmosphere
Its iconic aesthetics may catch a passing gaze. But forget any sense of facade. Here the atmosphere is carefully calibrated and rhythm is set by the philosophy of Lefay Dolomiti. It brings together the powerful art of balancing the elements, moving between physical and emotional sensations, in one of Europe’s most compelling winter sports destinations. The result is striking. A contemporary chalet-shaped building, warmed by authentic wooden details and illuminated by refined interiors. Set slightly above the Val Rendena, on a gentle mountain slope, its vast windows bless the guests with a breathtaking view over the landscape.
For us, year after year, each visit has become something more - a personal appointment. Our ritual begins the same way every time: a long gaze over the valley. The view opens wide and our hearts skip a beat. In winter, we sink into the large leather sofas, watching soft snow fall beyond the windows. In summer, we are surrounded by the vibrant green of mountain pines. We come here whenever we need to step away from the bustle.

Living the Spaces
The grand central hall is the heart of the resort. Wooden ceilings, sloping architecture, and the enormous window framing the valley exude an unexpected warmth. At the center of the hall, a wooden sculptural volume houses the bar, a cigar room and, tucked above, a quiet reading area. Here, a late-afternoon aperitif can take place overlooking the valley - ideally blanketed in snow - or an after-dinner toast, when the escape settles in. Just below eye level, the indoor-outdoor heated pool welcomes guests as a warm indoor sanctuary before stretching out in the garden. A mist rises from the water and, in the crisp mountain air, the pool is lit at sunset by a fire pit.
Rooms are spacious, sleek and hushed - true private nests. Warm wood and a crackling screen-lit fireplace set the mood, together with the large windows that frame the valleys. Stepping onto the room terrace in a bathrobe and tasting the fresh morning air is a fresh start each day, a memorable ritual we missed once back at home. Oversized showers and freestanding bathtubs help stretch the senses along with Lefay’s signature scented toiletries - nickel free and available in the resort boutique. On our last stay we had the rare pleasure of inhabiting the glorious Spa Suite, offering double the space and a private sauna, an emotional shower and the sunniest terrace overlooking the valleys.

Experiencing the stay, season by season
Winter brings the resort fully to life, and it revolves around skiing in Madonna di Campiglio. Lefay Resort & Spa Dolomiti lies just moments from the main ski areas, which offer 155 kilometers of slopes and 4 snow parks, and have been awarded by Skiresort as Italy’s leading destination for winter sports. Returning to the resort and slipping into the spa is a welcome relief from the cold and releases all muscles after a day spent skiing or snowboarding on the bright snow. Summer, however, offers different, even more touching, experiences: beyond hiking or biking trails into the dense woodland of the Dolomites, the Doss del Sabion rises just behind the resort, reaching 2,000 meters and turns out to be the perfect spot for a paragliding launch site. No engine noise, only adrenaline and silence, floating midair and reaching the best valley view.
Outdoor experiences are seamlessly paired with the extensive luxury indoor spa offering, which Lefay delivers with consistent excellence, recognized by leading wellness awards. As in the resort on Lake Garda, five energetic paths are available to explore and recover one’s body condition, while à la carte treatments - spanning health, wellness and cosmetic - are opportunities for a physical reset. Set at the heart of the building, the spa level features a heated relaxation pool, an indoor sport pool, and a sequence of refined saunas and hammams. Our personal favourite is the sauna stretching session: a guided and toning soft-gym ritual accompanied by the diffusion of essential oils from different mountain pines - playful, yet intense.

Interludes
During the stay, the culinary interludes are at the Dolomia restaurant, where the panoramic windows frame the scenic mountain slopes washed by the first morning light. Breakfast takes shape through fresh bites of local products - from fresh baked bread to alpine dairy and cured meats - sketching a first gastronomic landscape. By evening, the same hall brightens for dinner, with a seasonal menu that moves between regional recipes - we’ve become fond of the saddle of venison with red cabbage and blueberries - accompanied by an extensive wine selection, showcased in a stunning glass wine cellar in the hall. But behind the door of Grual, the resort’s other restaurant, the food and wine pairing of the Michelin-starred chef Matteo Maenza guides us through the culinary art, an experience that drew our full attention.

A point of return
It’s that kind of overall philosophy - that balance between breathtaking landscape and refined hospitality of a luxury resort - that we have rarely found throughout our travels across Italy. It allows us a true sense of leisure, swinging between complete relaxation and signature experiences. That’s why Lefay Resort & Spa Dolomiti remains on our bucket list, year after year. And that’s why we’re paying attention to the upcoming opening of the third Lefay resort in Tuscany, in 2026.
